Almost a year to the day since I posted this, I finally got my wish to see The Police in concert last night at Giants Stadium. I have to say that I was very impressed with how the sounded. Sting's voice was right on, Andy Summers guitar sounded great, and Stewart Copeland never missed a beat. I was happy to see that it was just the three of them on stage and not a bunch of back up singers and instruments. This really impressed me since they sounded very full on every song.I tailgated in the parking lot with a bunch of family & friends (Jenn unfortunately did not go. She's been having a difficult time walking in her last tri-mester of pregnancy). They opened the show with Message in a Bottle, followed by Synchronicity II (which is one of my favorites) and Walking on the Moon. There was very little talking going on between songs which I was happy about.
They also played (in no particular order):
So Lonely
Roxanne
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Voices Inside My Head
When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around
De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
Invisible Sun
Walking in your Footsteps
Wrapped Around Your Finger
King of Pain
Can't Stand Losing You
Every Breath You Take
(I know I've missed two or three here)
The only song I wish they did was Murder By Numbers. It was surprising to look around and see how many people didn't know some of the songs though (Voices Inside My Head, When the World is Running Down & So Lonely for example). I guess they just went to hear King of Pain and Every Breath you Take.
My friend Matt drank so much that he actually missed half the show because he passed out. I have a picture of him sleeping in his seat, but I'll spare him and not post it. I took more with my camera phone, but they came out crappy, so I'll spare you the blurry light streaks I got.
If they come to a town near you, do what you can to see them. It was definately worth the $100, except for Matt, but that's a whole other story....

Sounds like a fun time.
Poor Matt. You should burn a CD with the songs for him so he can feel like he made it thru the whole show.
The show actually closed (I was at Giants Stadium as well) with a very energetic version of "Next to You." Those who left early missed the most energy on the stage in the entire show, with black and white photos from the early years flashing in an almost strobe effect on the three screens above, while the three band mates ran and jumped about the stage. I wish there had been more of this kind of energy earlier in the show, which is my only criticism, that the show was a bit on the languid side at times.
Thanks for the update Anon, I'm sorry I missed it. As I mentioned, my friend was in bad shape, so we decided to get him out of there.
HAHAHA Awww man you should TOTALLY post that picture of MATT. He's strong, he can take it. tee hee hee.
p.s. no fair I couldn't go. *pout*
Wow....I am so glad you got to go! Its a bummer when they leave out that one song you're really hoping to hear, but they had a great set list!!
I commented to your comment to me, I appreciated your viewpoint!
You are far too kind. I would have posted a pic of a passed out friend in a heartbeat.
I heard they really came together since their tour first started. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much.
Hi Mike: I saw The Police when they came to my area back in July. One of the best shows that I have seen. It sounds like the set list they did at Giants Stadium was identical to the one they performed when I saw them.
Your friend must be kicking himself still for passing out during the show. Esp. since the reunion tour of The Police is a one-time only thing.
